While Tony Sarg was well known as a children’s book illustrator, he was the man who revived the marionette theater in America. In 1928, he designed, and his protégé Bil Baird built tethered helium-filled balloons resembling animals, for the Macy's department store for the store's annual Thanksgiving Day parade.
